Forced wort test

Description

A forced wort test (sample taken before yeast is pitched) is performed to verify there are no contaminants (“fermentation negative control”).  If the airlock is bubbling or the wort is not perfectly clear (for some styles) then your beer may be in danger.  Contaminants can be identified by plating/streaking out the culture and performing the “Contamination Identification” test above.
